Minimum impact

Holmen Aquatics Center, located in Asker municipality, Norway, is an aquatic center with an indoor pool, therapy pool, gym and multi-purpose hall. It is beautifully designed by the Icelandic architectural firm ARKIS.

With the greatest respect for the environment, the icelandic studio ARKIS is building a remarkable aquatic center in Norway, in the municipality of Asker, occupying 5,319 m² on the ground over 15,300 m². This is how, without denouncing, Holmen Aquatics Center manages to form a continuation of the beach, while protecting and enhancing the natural qualities of the site. The footprint occupied by the building is replaced by a roof garden, presenting spectacular perspectives. This grassy terrace slopes gently to the south and offers breathtaking views of the islands and reefs of the Oslo fjord. The main entrance, reception, changing rooms and swimming pools are located on the first level of the building. As for the lower floor, it houses a sports hall, a multifunction hall, technical areas and staff facilities. Using the passive house methodology, a long-term vision is established to recover energy, through construction methods, insulation and the shape of the building. This project is selected among the 50 models of the architecture of the future in Norway and is considered the best in terms of ecology.
