They are also famous for their beneficial treatments for many pathologies. These thermal baths are another reason to visit this territory and enjoy its beautiful landscapes, its artistic heritage, its history, its gastronomic specialties and its wines.
Terme di Saturnia
The legend tells that Saturn, god of peace and abundance, loses patience when he sees the constant war of men. So he throws a thunderbolt into the earth, causing a river of magic hot water to flow through valleys, mountains and plains. Men and things are then warmly enveloped, so that their spirits are finally appeased. Around this ancient source of health, Terme di Saturnia has developed over 100 years of hospitality into a contemporary five-star resort, nestled in a beautiful and unspoiled landscape in the heart of the Tuscan Maremma, an unspoiled region with enchanting scenery, including the Argentario coastline, Mount Amiata, small medieval villages and ancient Etruscan and Roman sites. The ultimate destination to enjoy nature in all its shades of beauty. With a spa and beauty clinic, hot water pools and an 18-hole geocertified golf course, it is the ideal place to leave the busy world behind, cradled in the healing embrace of nature.
For 3,000 years, thermal water has been flowing continuously from the center of the earth into the resort’s crater at a temperature of 37.5°C. The spring naturally fills with 500 liters of fresh water every four hours, without any human intervention. This process allows the water to retain its purity and natural health benefits. This water traveled for 40 years underground through passages lined with 60 meters of clay, before emerging to the surface. 2,790 grams of mineral salts are dissolved in each liter of water, in addition to sulfur dioxide and carbon dioxide.
The water of the Terme di Saturnia contains sulfur, carbon dioxide, sulfate, bicarbonate and alkali as well as calcium and magnesium. While bathing in the spring, one notices the natural thermal plankton. This organic-mineral substance has a gelatinous consistency, varies in color and appears on contact with air. Its unique properties have an extraordinary impact on the skin and extracts are used in Terme di Saturnia’s treatments and cosmetics range.

Hydrofitness involves a series of movements in flowing water from showers, jets and waterfalls. The inhalation of healing thermal water vapor during hydrotherapy is used as an effective treatment for respiratory problems. In addition, the mud therapy of the resort is used to treat and prevent osteoarticular pathologies and is also prescribed for anti-aging treatments. The Saturnia mud is matured in sulfurous water for twelve months and mixed with thermal water and algae before being applied to the body. Aesthetic treatments such as fillers, injections, peels and laser are also available. Specialized services include consultations in medical thermalism, dermatology, physiatry and naturopathy.

Terme di Chianciano
Terme di Chianciano SPA was founded in 1915 and has been in continuous development since then. The Etruscans and Romans were already aware of the beneficial properties of the thermal springs since the time of Porsenna and Augustus. Villas, temples and real resorts flourished near the thermal springs and can still be admired today, such as the villa with swimming pool in Mezzomiglio. It is a leading international destination for spa tourism in Tuscany, thanks to the completeness and excellence of the offer, made even more attractive by an extraordinary geographical location between the Valdichiana and the Val d’Orcia, rich in history, culture, nature, gastronomy and local wines. Terme di Chianciano uses four different resorts: the Acqua Santa Park, with the Santa and Fucoli waters for the treatment of mineral waters, the sensory spas, the medical center with analysis laboratory and MOC, Terme Sillene with the center for the locomotor system, the arthoreumatic and hepatic mud, the vasculopathic baths, the inhalations, the rehabilitation, the gym, the sports medicine and the Theia thermal pools.
Terme Antica Querciolaia
Located in the heart of Tuscany, the Terme Antica Querciolaia allows you to benefit from the curative qualities of the thermal waters, thanks to numerous therapeutic and wellness treatments. The heart of the complex has an indissoluble link with the spring: the horseshoe shape designed to embrace and even protect the spring. The travertine with its warm tones and ancient veins refers to a world, that of the spa, which owes everything to water.
Terme di Sorano
Halfway between Pitigliano and Sorano, the Sorano thermal baths are one of the best in Tuscany for wellness and relaxation. The waters, bicarbonate, magnesium and calcium, are rich in beneficial properties and are effective in treating dermatitis and circulation disorders. The establishment has a large thermal pool, a 3,000 square meter solarium with lawn, deck chairs and umbrellas, a sports pool and a unique Bagno dei Frati, a natural pool located in the woods and used since the 15th century by the monks who lived in Pieve dell’Aquila. The spa also has an excellent restaurant serving traditional Maremma cuisine and an elegant residence with private apartments.
The thermal waters of Sorano have important curative, rehabilitative and detoxifying properties. They are indicated for the treatment of respiratory and skin diseases, arthritis, rheumatism, vascular diseases and are recommended for rehabilitation. They are rich in sulfur, which has important beneficial effects on cartilage, and in sodium bicarbonate, with anti-inflammatory properties. They are particularly effective in treating skin diseases, including psoriasis and dermatitis, thanks to their anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, anti-itching, sebum-regulating, antioxidant, keratoplastic-keratolytic effect. The thermal water of Sorano springs from two different sources, that of the large thermal pool at a temperature of 37.4°C and that of the Bagno dei Frati, in the woods, at a temperature of 34°C.
Terme di Montepulciano
The Terme di Montepulciano is a characteristic thermal park located in the splendid town of Montepulciano, in the Sienese countryside, between the two tourist areas of Val d’Orcia and Val di Chiana. Its isolated position on the slopes of the Sienese hills places it in the center of an area that is easy to reach from all directions. Geographically, it is at the center of a square whose vertices are represented by the cities of Siena, Arezzo, Perugia and Orvieto.
Montepulciano is also located in the context of a region, that of Crete-Monte Amiata-Val d’Orcia, with a very strong thermal vocation. There are at least four important thermal centers within a few kilometers of Montepulciano: Terme di Chianciano, the wellness center of Rapolano, Bagno Vignoni and Bagni San Filippo.
The Terme di Montepulciano was founded in 1966 to exploit the therapeutic properties of the salsobromoid sulfurous waters rich in carbon dioxide present in the subsoil of the settlement. They presented themselves with those characteristics of environmental, scientific and therapeutic comfort, which led the structure, even in its early years, to compete with those historically more important.
San Giovanni Terme
Near the medieval town of Rapolano, the San Giovanni spa is located. Surrounded by soft clay hills and a horizon bordered by vineyards and olive groves, it is the ideal place for a quiet and relaxing vacation. The five thermal pools, with variable water temperatures, are spread over indoor and outdoor areas, allowing guests to relax and rejuvenate against a backdrop of incredible panoramic views.
The San Giovanni thermal baths are made up of sulphurous-bicarbonate-limestone waters, which gush out of the spring at 39°C. In addition to the general relaxation and well-being that these elements provide to the body, the water has curative properties for skin problems, as well as for the motor and respiratory systems. The wellness center also offers massages (aesthetic, curative or purely relaxing), using classical and oriental techniques, as well as beauty treatments for the face and body with thermal mud and cosmetic products from the Terme San Giovanni line.
