Immersion in cinema

Chinese team 4N Design Architects, made up of Sinner Sin, Danny Ng, Billy Kwong and Elroy Fung, designed a magnificent cinema complex in Shanghai, equipped with the latest laser projection technology, to produce images in super high resolution on a gigantic screen.

In a commercial and residential district of Puxi Shanghai, the architects Sinner Sin, Danny Ng, Billy Kwong and Elroy Fung, forming the team of the Chinese studio 4N Design Architects, imagined a sophisticated cinema complex. Occupying the top floor of a new shopping center, the site features an open atrium, connecting the public space to nine separate rooms. The aim of the project was to create a huge high-end cinema, allowing the presentation of a wide variety of well-selected HD films. The designers insisted on a large reception and waiting area, which can also serve as a drink bar. In addition, the theater operator needs it to organize various commercial events related to film screening. Visitors arrive via escalators and elevators and come out in front of the elegantly sized concierge desk. Then, from the ticket control point, a corridor leads them to the various rooms. The general color tone is inspired by nature, with materials such as wood, natural stone and off-white hues. Through their artistic process and their approach to space planning, the designers have succeeded in creating an inspiring and striking spatial experience.
