An all-glass house in California
In Los Angeles, California, in the Bel Air district, a three-storey residence of 1,750 m2 is personalized & designed by the American studio SPF: architects. All in glass, it gives the impression of floating subtly above the landscape.
Perched atop a hill in Bel Air, California, the construction is shaped like a three-winged propeller, wrapped in glass that reflects its expansive view of the Los Angeles basin. This technological marvel is the work of American studio SPF: architects, whose founders and design directors are architects Zoltan Pali and Judit Fekete-Pali. The goal was to create a home that blends into its surroundings while maximizing views of the landscape, and that is spacious enough to host large events and accommodate extended family. In short, it was necessary to end up with a home that was both warm and functional. For this, the architects imagined spaces that easily integrate with each other, distributed over three axes radiating from a central node, represented by a dynamic staircase in glass and steel. The huge glass panels offer the inhabitants of the house a strong link with nature, letting in the different seasonal luminosities. This transparent curtain wall, which envelops the entire third floor, is a very sophisticated system, custom developed with the Swiss company Sky-Frame. Five widths of four different opacities: reflective, opaque, translucent and clear, are used in the structure, to present exceptional facades, changing and shimmering.
