Reconnecting science and design
Innovation Lab, a new innovation center in Huizhou, China, is being produced by Aim Architecture, a Shanghai-based office, for China Resources Group, one of China’s largest business conglomerates. With a futuristic look, the project, led by Nicolas Herrgott, aims to reconnect science and design.
At first glance, it is the straight, endless neon lights against a rough industrial-type ceiling that our eye notices, plunging us into a resolutely modern style of architecture. Huge screens are deployed along the walls, giving the place a malleable and creative appearance. The whole is designed to encourage the flow and sharing of ideas, as well as visitors, and the layout reflects this desire. In the center of a rectangular space of 700 m2, large sliding aluminum doors are installed, arranged in such a way as to allow the insulation of four rooms, while, all around, the flow remains free, in an indefinite flexibility. Thus, according to needs, work rooms are formed or deformed. Each place has its theme with matching furniture: reflection and meetings with chairs with shelves or brainstorming and research requiring a softer layout, with warm colors, comfortable armchairs or even ottomans. This laboratory is an innovation in itself, adapted to any brain activity and which modulates, allowing each visitor to be an integral part of the experience. Aim Architecture has succeeded in the mission of creating a deliberately reforming scientific pole in a limited space.
